Numerous times over the years, for various events that I was involved with, I was given an access pass. This allowed me to go backstage so that I could carry out my responsibilities for the events. There was however a couple of times that I was given an all access pass.
A normal access pass gives you access to certain areas for an event. But an all access pass gives you entrance to everything associated with the event. The first time I was given an all access pass, it was a little hard to really believe that I did indeed have "all access."
The event was a rodeo in Phoenix and I was there to do some announcements for just a couple of hours. I didn't really need an all access pass and I'm not quite sure while they gave me one in the first place. But nevertheless, wearing that pass afforded me entrance to any and everything connected with the event.
Having a little extra time before my announcements, I decided to try out my all access pass. As I approached an area that was protected by a security guard, I felt a little uneasy. But once he saw the pass, no questions were asked; I just walked right in.
Since that worked out so well, I decided to go to another area and once again, once security saw my all access pass, I walked in the door with no explanation needed. That second area turned out to be the location for all the snacks and beverages.
After those two episodes, it was time for me to do my job, but my attitude was a lot different. I knew that I could go anywhere I wanted to go. I had confidence because I had an all access pass.
Many Christians fail to realize that they have been given an all access pass into the presence of God. The Bible says that because of what Jesus Christ accomplished, we have access unto the Father. In fact, there is a scripture that clearly shows just how great that access really is.
In the book of Hebrews, we are encouraged to come boldly into the throne of grace so that we might obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Have you ever stopped to consider that fantastic invitation? You really ought to see it as your all access pass to the Father.
To come boldly means to speak freely and openly, holding nothing back. It means pouring out your whole heart, openly and honestly before God. You and I have been invited to His throne so that we can speak openly and freely to our heavenly Father. We can tell Him everything without holding back.
We are invited into His throne room, with all the access that Christ made possible for us, for two reasons. First, enter into God's throne so that we can obtain mercy. Mercy is the holding back of deserved consequences.
Suppose you went to court because of a speeding ticket, and you were guilty. If the judge said, "Case dismissed," that would be mercy. You did something worth consequences, but those consequences were held back.
So first, we enter into God's throne so that we can obtain mercy. We are not perfect, and God knows that. But we have been given all access into His throne so we could freely speak to Him and obtain mercy.
Second, we have access into His presence so that we can find grace to help in time of need. Grace is undeserved favor from God. It is not earned or worked for; it is simply God granting you favor.
In times of need, we can walk into God's throne room and speak freely and openly, obtaining the mercy we need. And we can also speak freely and openly about the things that we need. We can ask Him for His favor on our lives in regard to the things that we need.
When I first decided to use my all access pass that day at the rodeo, I did not feel very confident. I knew that access to everything there was not necessary for me. I also knew that I didn't earn or deserve the right to go anywhere I wanted to go.
But regardless, I had an all access pass. I chose to use it. Instead of talking myself out of what I was given, I decided to take full advantage.
Of course we don't deserve entrée into God's throne of grace. Of course we didn't earn it. But, nonetheless, because of what Christ accomplished, we have been given complete and open access to God. We really ought to use it, don't you think?
Never allow anyone, including you, talk you out of what Christ accomplished for you. Don't ignore the open invitation to come to throne of God and speak to Him freely all that is on your mind. Use your all access pass.
